Jerry Garner graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in 1958 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and in 1962 with his M.S. in the same field. He later received an Executive MBA degree from the University of Iowa.

He began his outstanding career in the paper industry as a machine designer with Continental Can Corporation. He continued shaping his technical career through the positions of senior machine designer, division operations engineer, and corporate director of engineering and technical services. He continued moving up through manufacturing management with Continental Can serving as plant manager, vice president of operations and vice president and general manager of operations with Stone Container Corporation after its acquisition of Continental Can. He served in senior management at Stone Container in positions such as vice president of the industrial packaging division, vice president and group general manager over industrial packaging, industrial polyethylene, and specialty packaging divisions, and, finally as senior vice president and group general manager responsible for eight operating divisions having annual sales of nearly $2 billion. He retired from Stone Container in 1995 and immediately joined Bancroft Bag, Inc. in West Monroe, serving as president and CEO from 1995-98.

Jerry has been honored on many occasions for his outstanding performance as an engineer and engineering manager.  At Stone Container, he twice received the Chairman’s Award for Excellence and was recognized for outstanding division performance on nine separate occasions. His service to Louisiana Tech University has also been exemplary. He has been recognized at many levels for his outstanding contributions, including serving as a founding member of the Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Industrial Advisory Council and being selected as a Life Director of the Louisiana Tech Engineering and Science Foundation.
