Scholarship Information: Engineering

Ben T. Bogard Scholarship

  • Must have completed 92 hours, majoring in engineering with financial need.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements taken into consideration: Must have 92 hours, but have at least three quarters left before graduation at the beginning of the fall quarter.  Must have been in engineering at Tech for at least six quarters.  Must be a U.S. citizen. Also must have high scholarship and character, leadership, active participation in professional and technical societies.
  • Student must remain full-time.

 

C. C. Whittelsey Scholarship

  • Must be an incoming freshman, transfer student, continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Recipients parents must be employed by Ford, Bacon, and Davis.
  • Approximately 1 award of varying amount.
  • Student must remain full-time and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on an annual basis.

 

David E. Hogan Scholarship (Century Telephone)

  • Requires: GPA: 3.0

 

Donald Ruffin Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requirements: graduate of Oak Grove High School, Oak Grove, LA.
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,000 per academic year.
  • Student must remain in the curriculum of Engineering and Science on a full-time basis.

 

Dr. Thomas Harper Goodgame Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student.
  • Approximately 1 award for $200-1,000 per academic year.

 

Eastman Minority Scholarship

  • Must be a junior chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Student must remain full-time and maintain a GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis (one quarter probationary period).
  • Approximately 1 award for $4,000 per year until graduation is available.
  • Application Deadline: TBA
  • Award Decision is Made By: TBA
  • Applications are provided by Eastman Chemical.

 

Frank Bogard Scholarship

  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements taken into consideration: Student must have completed 60 hours, but no more than 91 hours at the beginning of fall quarter, must have been a student in engineering at Tech for at least three quarters, and be a U.S. citizen. Also must have high scholarship and character, leadership, and active participation in professional and technical societies.

 

Harrell and Lenore Smith Scholarship

  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Recipient must be a U.S. citizen in pursuit of a degree in engineering, 30 hours or more earned with a minimum 3.0 GPA by the end of spring quarter, minimum of three quarters remaining before graduation at the beginning of fall quarter.

 

Henry E. and Margaret A. Stamm Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major with financial need.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Recipient must be a U.S. citizen in pursuit of a degree in engineering, 30 hours or more earned with a minimum 3.0 GPA by the end of spring quarter, minimum of three quarters remaining before graduation at the beginning of fall quarter.

 

Harry Talbot Scholarship

  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Recipient must be a U.S. citizen.

 

James R. Harrelson Memorial Endowed Engineering Scholarship

  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements: First preference to a graduate of Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, LA; second preference given to a graduate of Fair Park High School in Shreveport, LA; third preference to a graduate of any school in Caddo Parish, LA. Teacher recommendations and financial need a factor in decision.
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,000 for four academic years.
  • Student must remain in curriculum in College of Engineering and Science.
  • Student must remain a full-time student with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a annual basis.

 

Joelene McBride Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a student pursuing a full-time course of study toward a degree in engineering field and making normal progress toward such a degree
  • The selection will be made by a committee.

 

Maryanne Scogin Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,000 per academic year.
  • Student must remain a chemical or mechanical engineering major on a full-time basis and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Mike Thompson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be awarded to students in the College of Engineering and Science with a preference for students majoring in Construction Engineering Technology.
  • Preference to students who are non-traditional in the sense that they are paying their own way through school.
  • Must be registered and remain registered as a full time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University.
  • Selection will be made by a committee.

 

Pipes Foundation Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Approximately 3 awards for $1,000 per academic year.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on an annual basis.

 

Pratt Paper T.J. Frost Memorial Scholarship

  • Must be undergraduate student or incoming freshman majoring in engineering, first priority will be given to sons and daughters of Pratt Paper -Louisiana. The second priority will be given to sons and daughters or employees of Pratt Paper Industries (Pratt Paper-Louisiana parent corporation).
  • The scholarship may be renewed annually, but may be awarded for a maximum of 12 academic quarters.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University.

 

Robert E. McFadden Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be an incoming freshman majoring in curriculum in College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Additional Requirements: Awarded to incoming freshmen, who is a graduate of Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, LA. Teacher recommendations.
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,000 per academic year (amount can be adjusted for inflation) is available.
  • Student must remain in the curriculum in College of Engineering and Science and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

Richard H. Byrd Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior mechanical or chemical engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements taken into consideration: Student should have financial need. Preference shall be given to students from Louisiana.
  • Amount of award to be determined as funds are available.

 

Robert V. Byrd Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0

 

Ronald E. Cannon Scholarship (Gas Processors)

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Recipient shall be enrolled in an engineering discipline applicable to the natural gas and gas processing industry.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0

 

American Petroleum Institute Scholarship

  • Must be a student from the College of Engineering and Science who is majoring in an engineering curriculum that provides students with the knowledge and background necessary to pursue careers in the oil and natural gas industry, or, in special circumstances, candidates may be from any department or academic college if mutually agreed upon by all parties.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Student must remain full-time and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on an annual basis.

 

Roy T. Sessums Scholarship

  • Must be an incoming freshman or graduate civil, electrical or mechanical engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements taken into consideration: Student must be a natural born U.S. Citizen, nomination from CE, EE, or ME Scholarship Committee Reps.
  • Approximately 10 awards for $1,000 per academic year. Graduate students for 1 year and undergraduate students for 4 academic years.
  • Student must remain full-time and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.
  • If student loses scholarship he/she is replaced with another student.

 

Terrill and Henry Families Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,000 per academic year.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

Thomas J. and Elizabeth B. Wilson Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major with financial need.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Recipient must be an American born citizen of the U.S.

 

Gorman Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Scholarship alternates years between electrical engineering and nursing. Electrical engineering is awarded in years beginning with even numbers (e.g. 2002-2003).
  • Student must remain an electrical engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

Tech's Best Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Approximately 15 awards are presented. The amount varies as funds are available.
  • Student must remain in COES on a full-time basis.

 

Jerry W. and Marianna Box Scholarship

  • Must be an incoming freshman, continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.75
  • Additional Requirements: Recipient must be of Hispanic heritage and a U.S. citizen. Those with greatest financial need will have priority.
  • Approximately 1 award for $5,000 is to be awarded per year for 4 years if awarded as a freshman, 3 years if awarded as a sophomore, 2 years if awarded as a junior, and 1 year if awarded as a senior.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 on an annual basis. If the student does not meet the requirements and loses the scholarship, reinstatement is not possible. 

 

Brooks Endowed Engineering Scholarship

  • Must be a graduate student in engineering.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.5
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
    o Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on an annual basis.

 

James Pickens Ford Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior civil engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Additional Requirements: First preference is given to a student from Grand Cane, second preference given to a student from Mansfield, and third preference is given to a student from DeSoto Parish.
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain a civil engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on an annual basis.

 

Mattie Black Gaston Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Additional Requirements: Must have a financial need.
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain in a COES major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

Patricia Ann Bell Henley Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain in a COES major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

Rose T. and Roy E. Hogan Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be an incoming freshman majoring in engineering or a continuing junior majoring in mechanical or biomedical engineering.
  • Requires: Incoming Freshman: ACT 23 or SAT 1050 Enrolled students: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements: First priority given to an incoming freshman from Berwick High School in Berwick, Louisiana. If no candidates apply, then a student of junior classification in mechanical or biomedical engineering is considered based on strong academic performance, participation and demonstrated leadership in student organizations, both engineering and non-engineering, having high character, integrity, and personal responsibility, and financial need.
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain an engineering major if a freshman or a mechanical or biomedical engineering major if a junior on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Leonard Cooper Long III Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Additional Requirements: Student must be from Concordia Parish.
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

The William Ardis Marbury, Sr. Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering

  • Must be a junior biomedical engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,500 per academic year.
  • Student must remain a biomedical engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Charles G. Tullis Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior engineering major.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.0
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Underground Telecommunications Damage Prevention Scholarship

  • Must be a junior civil engineering major studying undergound construction.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain a civil engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Freshman Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman engineering or science major.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements: Teacher recommendations, interview process. Points are awarded based on GPA, extra-curricular activites, and participation in class. Top 4 receive awards.
  • Approximately 4 awards for $500 per academic year.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis.
  • No application required.

 

Eastman Chemical Co-op Scholarship

  • Must be a chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering major in the top 25% of senior class.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Additional Requirements: Must have completed a co-op rotation.
  • Awards are for $1,500 per academic year.
  • Student must remain a chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.
  • No application required.

 

Eastman Scholarship

  • Must be a 2nd semester sophomore or junior majoring in chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Requires: Placement in top 25% of class
  • Additional Requirements: Candidates will be of the following ethnic classification: 1) African American, 2) Hispanic, 3) Asian American, 4) Native American, or 5) a student of any race that is economically or socially disadvantaged. Transcripts will be provided each quarter to Eastman prior to scholarship payment. Other considerations include communication, initiative, technical skills, leadership, teamwork, judgement, and analysis. Scholars will be required to work an internship for Eastman prior to their graduation if positions are offered.
  • Approximately 1 award for $1,333.33 per quarter for 1 academic year is available.
  • Student must remain a chemical, electrical, or mechanical engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a quarterly basis.

 

Charles and Nelwyn Spruell Endowed Professorship and Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior within the College of Engineering and Science majoring in an academic area that provides knowledge and background information necessary to pursue a career in the petroleum industry.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Approximately 1 award for an amount to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must remain an engineering major on a full-time basis with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a quarterly basis.

 

William C. Thurmon Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a continuing freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in civil engineering; if there are no suitable candidates in civil engineering, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student majoring in any type of engineering.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Awards to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain a at least a minimum 2.5 GPA in all official college courses.

 

Jacques Robinson Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a full-time female student majoring in the area of micro-nano science. Preference will be given to Caucasian females.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5 - 3.4
  • Award will be made as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain at least a minimum 2.5-3.4 GPA in all official college courses.

 

Hilburn Memorial Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a student majoring in a curriculum in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • First preference will be given to graduates of Cotton Valley High School. If there are no suitable candidates, consideration will be given to a graduate of a school in Webster Parish. If no candidates are from Webster Parish, consideration will be given to any student who meets the following criteria.
  • Have a minimum high school GPA of 3.5.
  • Have a minimum ACT score of 25.
  • Be in the top 10% or top five of their high school graduating class.
  • Be a legal resident of the State of Louisiana.
  • If already enrolled at Tech, the applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 for their first quarter, a minimum GPA of 3.0 for subsequent quarters, and a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Consideration will be given to those with financial need and involvment in extra-curricular activities.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University.
  • Award will be awarded annually, with disbursement quarterly as funds are available.

 

Chip and Carolyn Woodard Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a student majoring in a curriculum in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Awards to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain a at least a minimum 2.5 GPA in all official college courses.

 

Carolyn and Rodney Rentrop and Martha And Wallace Stroud Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a student majoring in a curriculum in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 2.5
  • Awards to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain a at least a minimum 2.5 GPA in all official college courses.

 

Raymond Bailey Endowed Scholarship

  • Must be a student majoring in a curriculum in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.0
  • Awards to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain a at least a minimum 3.0 GPA in all official college courses.

 

NetQoS Scholarship in Engineering

  • Must be a student majoring in a curriculum in the College of Engineering and Science.
  • Must be have Junior or Senior standing.
  • Requires: GPA: 3.25
  • Requires: Essay 500 words about the reasons the applicant has an interest in making the field of computational networking a career.
  • Requires: Resume for college and NetQoS use.
  • Awards to be determined as funds are available.
  • Student must be registered and remain registered as a full-time student for the quarter he/she receives the scholarship at Louisiana Tech University. Student must maintain a at least a minimum 3.25 GPA in all official college courses.
