Program Highlights

The industrial engineering curriculum has been developed to prepare students for meaningful careers in this challenging and important branch of engineering. Industrial engineers are involved in all aspects of manufacturing and service industries. The following are some industrial engineering fields:

Corporations as diverse as Coca Cola, UPS, Disney, IBM, Entergy, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, and Boeing all use people with industrial engineering backgrounds to help manage their business.

Demand for Skill Set

The success of the program is evidenced by the high demand for its graduates in all sectors of the economy and the many professional accomplishments of the faculty.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission forecasts that 250 new industrial engineering jobs will be created, a growth rate of 14%. The State of Louisiana Long Term Annual Demand of Top Occupations to the Year 2020 includes the following in Demand Level I and Level 2: Industrial Engineers, Industrial Production Managers, and Engineering Managers requiring approximately 190 graduates (replacements for existing and new jobs combined) each year in Louisiana. This demand far exceeds what Louisiana 4-year colleges can supply each year. The national median annual wage of industrial engineers was $76,100 in May 2010. The Louisiana average annual wage in 2011 reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics was $81,561.


Dr. Ker is the Program Chair of Industrial Engineering and brings nearly 25 years of experience with a long history of working with area companies to improve and optimize processes. He has his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. Dr. Easley has a B.S. degree in Management with a M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. Dr. B. Hegab has both a B.S. and M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering as well as a MBA and a Doctorate in Business (finance). Dr. Cronk has a B.S. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, providing unique skills in the area of human factors, ergonomics, project management, and engineering administration.


The Industrial Engineering Program dates back to 1955. Louisiana Tech has offered a Masters Degree in Engineering with a concentration in Industrial Engineering since 1970.
