Clint Ewing, a senior civil engineering major at Louisiana Tech University, has earned the highest honor a civil engineering student can receive, winning the 2011 National Award from Chi Epsilon, the honorary society for civil and environmental engineers. Ewing, who is a starter for the Bulldogs’ baseball team, was also named one of the College of Engineering and Science’s Outstanding Seniors for 2011. Upon learning of Ewing’s award, Dr. Jim Nelson, associate dean for undergraduate studies and a professor of civil engineering, said the recognition was, “truly outstanding and well-deserved.” Dedicated to the purpose of maintaining and promoting the status of civil engineering as an ideal profession, Chi-Epsilon was organized to recognize the characteristics of the individual civil engineer deemed to be fundamental to the successful pursuit of an engineering career, and to aid in the development of those characteristics in the civil engineering student. To contribute to the improvement of the profession, Chi Epsilon fosters the development and exercise of sound traits of character and technical ability among civil engineers, and its members.
