Presentation:
“Mechanisms Underlying Impaired Regeneration in Muscle Wasting”
Monday, Oct. 16, 3:30 p.m., University Hall
Open to the public; members of the community are encouraged to attend.
Doles’ visit is sponsored by the College of Applied and Natural Sciences and the School of Biological Sciences.
Dole’s research is invested specifically in developing a greater understanding of muscle stem cell behavior in order to generate “novel and innovative therapies that will improve patient quality of life by precisely controlling muscle growth and regression,” he said.
Doles earned his B.A. in biology and political science at Brown University and his Ph.D. in biology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After completing his doctorate degree, Doles spent some time at the Centre De Regulacio Genomica in Barcelona, Spain, before returning to the United States to complete his postdoc at The University of Colorado at Boulder. During his postdoc, Doles was awarded a prestigious Pathway to Independence Award from the National Institutes of Health.
This is the fifth year of the New Frontiers in Biomedical Research Seminar Series, a series that brings internationally recognized scientists to Louisiana Tech to visit with students, faculty, and staff. The series has led to new collaborations for our faculty and summer research and graduate school opportunities for our students. The series has also demonstrated the interdisciplinary nature of research and has grown to include presentations on visual communication in the form of medical illustration. The series has created an opportunity to introduce Louisiana Tech and the surrounding community to faculty from other universities across the country, sharing and enhancing our resources.
