Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science will present a one-day Sustainable Infrastructure Systems Conference, Thursday, October 28 at Louisiana Tech’s Technology Transfer Center in Shreveport. The purpose of the conference is to inform the public about Louisiana-based research and technology that will meet future needs for sustainability. The keynote speaker for the event will be Blaine Leonard, president of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).  Leonard, who is the research program manager for the Utah Department of Transportation in Salt Lake City, is responsible for balancing priorities and resources in the Research Division and managing a wide variety of geotechnical, structural, seismic, environmental, and traffic safety research efforts.  He has spent 20 years in the consulting engineering business and has broad experience in site engineering, utilities, roads, geotechnical investigations, and earth dams. The conference will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions.  The morning session will bring together regional and national experts to discuss ways in which sustainability is being integrated into infrastructure development projects, and the way in which state and local governments are engaged in “green” initiatives. The afternoon session will feature researchers from Louisiana Tech who are actively engaged in finding solutions to current infrastructure problems facing the nation such as monitoring and rehabilitating our crumbling infrastructure, and finding new materials and technologies for sustainable development. Professional Engineers attending the conference can earn up to seven Professional Development Hours (PDH’s) towards the continuing education requirement for license renewal.
