Three students from Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science are among 157 nationwide to receive academic scholarships from Tau Beta Pi, the prestigious national engineering honor society. Mary B. Givens, a chemical engineering major from Tallulah, Beatrik D. Jakub-Wood, a mechanical engineering major from Jonesboro, and Sydney C. Johns from Eunice, a chemical engineering major from Eunice, will each receive a $2,000 scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year. These students were selected from a pool of national applicants and represent three of the four awardees from Louisiana universities. College of Engineering and Science Dean Stan Napper said he is “proud that our current students are continuing a long tradition of excellence in academics and leadership within the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech.” All Tau Beta Pi scholarships are awarded on a competitive criteria consisting of high scholarship, campus leadership and service, and promise of future contributions to the engineering profession.  All scholars are also members of Tau Beta Pi.
