College of Engineering and Science, CBERS begin distinguished lecture series

Dec 5, 2011 | Engineering and Science, Research and Development

Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science and the Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science (CBERS) welcomes Dr. Leon Iasemidis, associate professor in the Harrington Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Arizona State University, as the first speaker in the 2011-2012 “Today’s Leaders” Distinguished Lecture Series. Iasemidis’ presentation titled, “Spatiotemporal Changes of Brain Dynamics and Applications to Neuromodulation and Real-Time Control of Epileptic Seizures” will take place on December 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Institute of Micromanufacturing (IfM) auditorium on the Louisiana Tech campus.  The event is free and open to the public. Iasemidis is internationally recognized as an expert in nonlinear dynamics, and the detection, prediction and control of crises in coupled complex systems like the human and animal brain. He founded the field of seizure prediction and his research has been funded by NIH, VA, DARPA, NSF, DoD, the Epilepsy Foundation of America, the Science Foundation of Arizona, and the Whitaker Foundation. Iasemidis is also the founder and director of the Brain Dynamics Laboratory at the Arizona State University and has co-founded two companies in the area of neuromodulation and control of epilepsy.  He is the author or co-author of ten patents and numerous publications, and his research is highlighted in multiple forums, including the New York Times, Discover magazine, the Teaching Company, and the American Society for the Advancement of Science.
