Louisiana Tech University will offer a new “Air Force friendly” option for its popular online Master of Science in Engineering and Technology Management (MSETM) program, beginning in the winter academic quarter.

The online MSETM, offered through Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science, is a 33 credit hour, non-thesis program that can be completed entirely online, making it ideal for busy Air Force personnel facing a high tempo of operations and frequent deployments.

“Today’s Air Force officers are leaders of people but also manage advanced military technology and a wide variety of complex engineering functions,” said Dr. Scott Forrest, director of Louisiana Tech’s Shreveport Center.  “The online MSETM program is tailor-made to prepare them for their leadership and technology management duties and responsibilities.”

In order to help expedite the time to degree completion, the Air Force friendly option allows the transfer of up to nine credit hours from Air University’s On-Line Master’s Program (OLMP) or from equivalent Professional Military Education (PME) courses taken with the Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College or Air War College.

Forrest says that although the online MSETM program is specifically designed to meet the needs of Air Force active duty and reserve officers, civilians who have completed the appropriate OLMP or PME courses would also qualify for this special option.

Louisiana Tech plans to expand this program in the future to allow for transfer of credit hours earned through other military branch PME programs.

Louisiana Tech’s MSETM program provides training that includes a mix of mathematical, statistical, and risk modeling and analysis. It also includes systems design, engineering management, project management, and financial analysis to enable the graduate to be more effective in technical managerial and leadership roles in a business environment.  These skills further develop engineering degrees, practical experience in the field, and business experience with innovative aptitude.
