Office of Women in Science and Engineering (OWISE)

The Office for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (OWISE) works to build a culture of success for women faculty and students in engineering and science fields.  OWISE programs improve the climate, increase retention, and provide professional development and leadership opportunities for engineering and science faculty and students.

Along with supporting the Society of Women Engineers and Women in Cybersecurity, OWISE coordinates regular events for women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Women’s Week

March 20 – March 24

Stop by the IESB to see posters of women in STEM. Female students who are planning to attend Louisiana Tech in a STEM field in the fall are invited to send in information to earn an OWISE scholarship. Prospective students can submit their information until Friday when the office will have a drawing for the scholarship.

SWE’s Freshman Leadership Initiative is collecting coins to donate to DART. Find donation jars throughout the IESB.

OWISE Craft and Chat

5 p.m.: Integrated Engineering and Science Building

Craft using string art and chat with Dr. Laura Bostick, Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Louisiana Tech’s UTeachTeach and the Science and Technology Education Center.

12 – 1 p.m.: Prescott Library

Female faculty in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields are invited to lunch with special guest Angela Dunnington who will talk about resources and plans for Prescott Library.

Puppy Day with SWE

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Integrated Engineering and Science Building.

Students can interact with puppies from 4 Paws and destress.

Women in STEM Panel

5 p.m.: Prescott Library

Prescott Library and the Office of Women in Office of Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics will host a panel discussion on women in industry.

Girl’s night will include various booths like nail painting, hair tinsel, shower streamers, karaoke, tea blends, etc.
