Dr. Xiang (Shawn) Chen’s research lab designs multifunctional materials based on predictive computer simulations from nano- to mesoscale as well as collaborations with experiments. The current focuses are on the development of concurrent and sequential atomistic-continuum coupled modeling tools and their applications in predicting the effect of the dynamic behavior of materials microstructures on their transport properties. Her ongoing research projects are funded by NSF-EPSCoR (on complex concentrated alloys), NASA-EPSCoR (on solid-state electrolyte), and the Louisiana Board of Regents (on shape-memory alloys).
